NATURE'S FREE LARDER
TIP OF THE MONTH (August)
Just a reminder that with high seed prices, we can enormously reduce the cost of foods at the present time by feeding berries of hawthorn, cotoneaster, mountain ash, pyracantha and, for aviary birds (too messy in the home, unless you want purple walls!) elderberries. Also rose hips can be harvested, cut in half to reveal the seeds, and fed to our parrots. Collect the fattest hawthorn berries now, strip them from the branches and place in the freezer in small bags (enough for one day) and, if you collect enough, you will have them all year until the new crop is ready next August.
